tuesday. >> this despite the fact the pool was open and people were swimming in it for days without noticing. houbld it happen? here's amaul yeah ba raid de. >> reporter: the state department, the public health medical director tried to ease any fears among members of the public who may have been swimming when the body of 36-year-old marie joseph was submerged in 12 feet of water. joseph wasunnoticed and undiscovered for more than two days at the vietnam veterans pool in fall river. >> given the fact that the victim was in the pool and the chlorine levels were within normal levels, there really wouldn't bee any additional health risk. >> reporter: fall river's mayor revealed another mind-boggling development. that two city health inspectors tested the pool's water monday, and another inspector returned tuesday to do more testing. >> the ph levels were taken. there was nothing abnormal with the ph levels. there was only one word noted,

cloudy. >> reporter: cloudy water that may have contributed to the inspectors and 12 people assigned by the dcr to this pool to miss marie joseph's body at the bottom while the public frolicked on the surface for days. that includes six lifeguards on duty sunday afternoon through tuesday, according on offffials who believe the woman drowned sunday afternoon. >> a citizen was found dead in this pool. it is a tragedy and our citizens are alarmed. as the mayor of this city, it is my responsibility to ensure nothing like this occurs ever again in our city. >> very disturbing. >> that was amaul yeah ba raid that. in new york today an unexpected court appearance for dominique strauss-kahn, the former imf chief who is accused of sexually assaulting a hotel made. >> prosecutors have found significant issues with the story his accuser has told. the "new york times" also reports she has links to drug dealing g d money laundering and she tried to profit financially from the case. >> we'll see where that goes. definitely interesting news this morning that we came into.

jurors could soon begin deliberating in the casey anthony murder trial. the defense rested its case yesterday without calling anthony to the witness stand. >> a lot of folks wondered if she would testify, she didndn. both sides w will present their closing arguments today. the judge gives the jury its final instructions. anthony could get the death penalty if she's convicted of murdering her daughter. we're in the final stages of that case. on to cheerier news now. the hottest royal couple of the planet, they are here in north america, the first stop for prince william and katherine is in canada. it's canada day today. >> yes, it is. i think that may be why they're there, as a matter of fact. >alutations. >> eh? then they're on their way to california. and abc's diana alvear joiction us now from los angeles. good morning, diana. >> reporter: peggy and daniel, good morning. everybody was so excited to welcome will and kate to canada. but let's cut right to the chase. we all cared about what kate was wearing. and let me tell you, she looked fabulous.

royal fever has hit canada. thursday, prince william and princess catherine touched down at ottawa international airport. the couple were met by dignitaries and a little boy bearing flowers. on their first official overseas trip as a married couple. >> let me begin with heartfelt congratulations on your recent marriage. >> reporter: the two wed in late april at westminster abbey. their fairy tale wedding featured all the royal favorites. a breathtaking gown. carriage rides. and kisses on the balcony of buckingham palace for their adoring fans. the newly minted duke and duchess of cambridge hit the ground running in canada. they visited the national war memorial where they laid a wreath for the fallen. then they headed to ottawa city hall for their official welcome. their stay in canada will last a week and feature several events. next, the glamorous young couple will travel to southern california. a highlight of their trip, a charity event at the santa barbara polo and racket club.

was caught flashing an obscene gesture at the assistant state attorney. >> your actions may have jeopardized or could have jeopardized all of the work that the attorneys have done in this particular case. >> reporter: before the defense rested, they questioned casey's father george one more time, suggesting the way the anthony family had buried its family pets resembled the way 2-year-old caylee was found. their theory is george disposed of little caylee's body after she accidentally drowned. >> was it also wrapped in duct tape? >> sir, i have no idea. you're going back almost 30 years s re, sir. >> reporter: earlier george anthony's alleged mistress crystal holloway was on the stand. she recalled when he painfully raised the issue of caylee's death. >> he had said it was an accident that snowballed out of control. but i was in shock. by the time i looked up, his eyes were filled, tears. >> reporter: judge belvin perry told the jury to expect to get the case on saturday after closing arguments.
